Sauk Centre Soapbox Derby Rules
- Gotta GO | Each derby car must be gravity-powered. No motors or engines. There is no limitation on size, weight, materials, or designs.
- Gotta Turn | Must have steering. This will be tested before racing
- Gotta Stop | Must have brakes in good working condition. This will be tested before racing.
- Gotta Tow | 4-wheeler will be used to bring cart back to the top of hill. A place to hook on is required to get cart back to the top.
- Gotta wear a Helmet | Helmets are a must! Please do not alter helmets in any way that would change their effectiveness. Cars will not be allowed on the track unless the driver is wearing a helmet. Elbow pads are also strongly encouraged.
- Gotta have Permission | a) Be sure to pick up an entry form/permission slip before the race. All drivers under the age of 18 must have the permission slip signed by their parent to enter the derby. Permission slips and waivers must be signed to race.
- Gotta Test | All cars and drivers will be required to make a test run before racing. This allows us to make sure car is good working condition and the racer to feel comfortable driving and getting towed back up the hill.
- Limitations | A maximum of 2 drivers per car. Each drive will be in a different bracket. This allows us to keep things moving and avoid drivers with same car facing each other.
